Nothing new, folks — except for Martin seemingly developing hatred towards his Winds of Winter, and the reason is obvious to Game of Thrones’ fans. Let’s find it out.

George Martin is back on track with another update on The Winds of Winter that fans would probably never want to hear anyway.

It’s been more than five years since Game of Thrones ended its run after a pretty disappointing season 8, but Martin is still there with no major news about the next chapter of his magnum opus A Song of Ice and Fire, and it doesn’t even feel like we’re getting closer to the book’s release.

In fact, the novel which the writer has been working on since the early 2010s has become his personal torture at some point, even though Martin is still determined to wrap it up no matter what.

George Martin Calls The Winds of Winter ‘Curse’ of His Life

There might be no hope for some big changes, but outlets don’t miss an opportunity to press Martin against the wall once again, asking him about a possible progress that was made on The Winds of Winter.

The answer, however, might have just gotten even more disheartening than before.

“That's the curse of my life here. There's no doubt Winds of Winter is 13 years late. I'm still working on it. I have periods where I make progress and then other things divert my attention”, Martin revealed in a recent interview with Time.

The author also added that he has “a deadline for one of the HBO shows”, but specified that it has nothing to do with The Winds of Winter, which is a reason to believe the mysterious series may be to blame for distracting the writer from the book too.

What Fans Say About George Martin’s The Winds of Winter Update

Even though the author himself admitted he feels like fans “overestimate how much time I'm putting” into working on his books’ TV adaptations, some comments suggest there’s no excuse for Martin whatsoever.

“I don't envy George for the mess he has to clean up. But it was his own fucking mess, with his "gardener" style of writing. Amazingly talented author, but f—k you George. I've been waiting for a damn resolution to some of these plots since 1998!” Redditor OShaunesssy wrote in a thread.

“Please stop giving this man our time and energy. He failed. It’s over”, greymanart added, getting some support from those who suggested calling The Winds of Winter an “upcoming” book is just ridiculous.

“I've just made peace with the idea that I will never be able to read a conclusion to this story. There's too much else out in the world to care about now”, inkypinkyblinkyclyde concluded.
