George Martin’s New Adaptation Gets a Disheartening RT Score Despite His Praise

The upcoming movie starring Milla Jovovich and Dave Bautista didn’t have the best start ahead of its theatrical release.
While George Martin ’s Game of Thrones universe is taking a break as House of the Dragon ’s season 3 goes into full production mode, the author has another long-awaited adaptation to promote, though it might not be as easy as it seemed earlier.
Things were quite promising for Paul W. S. Anderson’s new fantasy movie In the Lost Lands after the flick received the highest praise from George Martin himself, though it soon went down to quite a controversial critical score ahead of the film’s release in theatres on March 7.
In the Lost Lands Gets a Critical Score of 17% on RT
The movie, which previously had a 100% approval from George Martin and even had inspired Anderson to think about a sequel, is currently holding a score of 17% based on 24 reviews from critics.
The percentage is obviously likely to change as more opinions will flood in after the premiere; however, In the Lost Lands might not get a score much higher, as many coincide in their take of the movie’s bad writing and plot filled with useless action tricks.
Based on George Martin’s short story of the same name, the movie stars Milla Jovovich and Dave Bautista as a powerful witch and a mysterious hunter embarking on a mission to bring a magical gift to their queen, travelling to Lost Lands where they will have to fight merciless enemies and see whether the idea was worth the shot after all.
George Martin Had Nothing Bad to Say About In the Lost Lands
A couple of weeks earlier, Anderson revealed in an interview with SFX magazine that George Martin had already seen the movie and spoken highly of it, despite the director’s fears about not meeting the author’s expectations after all.
“I'm sitting there going, ’S—t. This is George R.R. Martin.' But at the end, he loved it. He said he felt that I had captured his voice better than anyone had in an adaptation, which made me feel amazing”, he added, also admitting that he had never been this nervous during a first screening.
Martin’s praise was in fact so promising that Anderson caught himself thinking about a potential sequel the author could write another story for, though, considering In the Lost Lands’ first uninspiring results, it might not be the option anymore.
