George Martin’s New Box Office Failure Lands on Streaming This Week

The overwhelming praise from Game of Thrones’ author wasn’t a guarantee for the movie to break even.
A movie coming from a famous author’s book doesn’t always mean a stunning success in the box office, and George Martin ’s latest adaptation has become a new testament to it.
With House of the Dragon ’s season 3 recently confirmed to have gone into production, the writer is keeping himself busy with supervising more projects based on his famous novels and short stories.
This also included Paul W.S. Anderson’s In the Lost Lands based on Martin’s short story of the same name. The movie received a decent portion of hype ahead of the premiere, boasting of praise from the author himself, though it eventually didn’t do a magic trick, letting the film bomb dramatically in the box office.
However, George Martin’s fans who missed out on the movie in theatres might soon want to check it out on digital platforms where In the Lost Lands will arrive in just a couple of days.
In the Lost Lands Will Be on Streaming This Week
The movie, initially released in cinemas worldwide on March 7, is now scheduled for a streaming release (in a bit more than a month after the premiere) on April 8.
Featuring action movie stars Mila Jovovich and Dave Bautista in the leading roles, In the Lost Lands follows Jovovich’s Gray Alys who embarks on a mission to do a favour for the queen wishing for more magical power; strong and fearless sorceress herself, Alys doesn’t know yet what awaits her in the journey.
Soon she gets the company of a drifter named Boyce, and together they’ll have to fight for their life with other visitors of the Lost Lands or even with the evil power itself.
In the Lost Lands Was a Delight for George Martin, but Disappointed Everyone Else
Having spent a month in theatres across the globe, the movie wrapped up with quite frustrating results.
With a budget of $55 million, In the Lost Lands grossed less than $5 million, becoming one of the biggest box office flops of this year.
It didn’t do well with critics either, currently holding 24% of positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes; the audiences weren’t that harsh though, giving the film a better, but still average score of 47%.
In the Lost Lands is yet to prove itself with more potential viewers when it comes to digital platforms, but Anderson’s previous words about a likely sequel might not have a solid ground anymore.
