George R. R. Martin-Based Blockbuster From Resident Evil Director Hits Theatres This Week

The creator of Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil returns to the director's chair after a five-year hiatus with an adaptation of George R.R. Martin's fantasy novel and an A-list cast.
While fans are focused on upcoming Game of Thrones spinoffs like A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, a blockbuster film based on George R. R. Martin's short story In the Lost Lands is gearing up for release.
What Is In the Lost Lands About?
The plot of the book revolves around the adventures of a sorceress named Gray Alys. The woman can give the inhabitants of a fantasy world anything they want, but for a very high price.
She sets out across the wasteland in search of a source of magical power. As a guide for her journey through the Lost Lands, Alys chooses the silent hunter Boyce.
In the Lost Lands Cast & Release Date
The movie will be released very soon – on March 7, 2025.
Gray Alys will be played by Milla Jovovich (The Fifth Element, Resident Evil) and Hunter Boyce will be portrayed by Dave Bautista ( Guardians of the Galaxy, Dune ).
In the Lost Lands Is Made by a Master of the Horror Action Genre
In addition to a stellar cast, the film also boasts a strong creative team. The adaptation of In the Lost Lands was directed by Paul W. S. Anderson. He is known as the creator of the popular action films Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil and Death Race.
His most recent work includes the multi-episode series Origin for YouTube Premium and the fantasy action film Monster Hunter.
George R. R. Martin Promised to Release a Graphic Novel That Expands the Plot of the Movie
The first to announce the completion of the adaptation was the author of the original work, George R. R. Martin. In his blog, he recalled the creation of the story:
“In the first decade or so of my career most of what I wrote was science fiction, set amidst the Thousand Worlds, the shared background of dozens of my stories and my first novel, DYING OF THE LIGHT. In the Lost Lands was a bit of a departure; a pure fantasy.”
The author also said that he plans to release a 6,000-word graphic novel by the movie's premiere that will explore the film's vast and dark world in more detail.
But we all know the author's work rate and the fact that he has been trying to finish The Winds of Winter for ten years. So maybe the graphic novel will come out. Or maybe not.
