George R.R. Martin’s Beloved 'House of the Dragon' Character Will Almost Certainly Die in Season 3 — And So Beautifully, You’ll Want to Sing

The writer chooses the darkest of darkness between black and green.
House of the Dragon is not Game of Thrones, the spin-off is inferior to the original in almost every way. But the prequel has something that no one denies: a scattering of bright characters, for whom you want to worry, as for old friends. And George Martin has an absolute favorite among this pale-haired brotherhood - Daemon Targaryen.
If you think that Martin's favorite hero will live to a calm old age - I hasten to disappoint you. In House of the Dragon, the author's love usually means one thing: prepare handkerchiefs and valerian, the hero will leave beautifully and forever.
In the third season, Daemon will finally break out of the gloomy Harrenhal, where he wandered among the visions and ghosts of the past. According to Fire and Blood, he must help Rhaenyra recapture King's Landing, and at the same time avenge the death of his eldest son - Prince Jacaerys. It will be a hellish meat grinder - the Battle of the Gullet, one of the bloodiest naval battles in Westeros, where Daemon's old enemies will return to collect their debts.
But the best part is yet to come. Everything is heading towards the duel of the century: Daemon riding Caraxes against Aemond and his Vhagar — the dragons will meet right above the Eye of God. According to legend, it is there that Daemon will plunge his sword Dark Sister into Aemond's eye socket. The price is his own life: he and his enemy will fall into an icy lake. Beautiful, tragic and very much in the spirit of Martin.
The showrunners may drag out the reckoning — after all, it is profitable to keep Matt Smith in the cast. But fans of Dance of Dragons know: this outcome cannot be avoided. So stock up on tissues — Daemon Targaryen will leave the way he lived — brightly and without compromise.
