Many viewers have expressed their disappointment with how the show portrays the beloved Cooper family. The main criticism stems from them going downhill.
“I am a huge fan of the show but the way they are portraying Mary, Meemaw and Missy are not my favorite. Mary is getting little to no support from anyone around her, it’s heartbreaking and Audrey is horrible to her. Audrey is actually horrible to all of them. I know Missy going down hill makes more sense but it’s still sad to see how little problem solving they do for the coopers and just keep letting them decline,” Redditor Kind-Youth-6897 shared.

The Big Bang has always been first and foremost a character-driven universe. The Coopers (established by both The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon) have become fan favorites, which makes any departure from their established character arcs especially noticeable. But did they really go too far?
Honestly, we don't think so. The Coopers are coping with the loss of George, a father, husband and rock of the family. Their current state is not just a bit of drama for drama's sake, it's actually quite a realistic portrayal of a family dealing with grief.
Missy's rebellious behavior, which some fans criticize, actually makes perfect sense. Show us a single teenager processing grief logically. Mary's struggles, while painful to watch, are a real portrayal of a single mother doing the best she can under impossible circumstances. And Meemaw? Well, she's just being her usual Meemaw from The Big Bang Theory days.
