Gerard Butler’s 2023 Action Movie With 94% Audience Score Dethrones The Wild Robot in Peacock Top Chart
The movie has just got a second life after becoming a major box office hit 2 years ago.
Roughly two weeks after the Oscars ceremony that took place on March 2, the award’s big contender The Wild Robot has just been brought down by a very unexpected new arrival in Peacock ’s top movie chart.
The animated flick remained the streamer’s biggest hit for more than a month and continues getting more viewers, currently sitting at the second place among Peacock’s most watched movies, dethroned by an action thriller released around 2 years ago.
Produced by and starring Gerard Butler, the film received universal acclaim back in the day and became a box office success, now getting deserved attention from Peacock’s users.
Plane Is Peacock’s New Top Movie
The film isn’t just a new arrival in the streamer’s top chart, but also a number one flick that has surpassed The Wild Robot and is holding the first position on the list, according to FlixPatrol.
Plane follows Butler’s Brodie Torrance, a pilot who embarks on a risky mission to make an emergency landing trying to save his passengers from a lightning strike. However, when the plane lands on an island which is being torn by war and most of the passengers are taken hostage by local rebels, Brodie realises that surviving a pretty possible plane crash was just the beginning of all the problems.
Desperate to get out of there alive and help others do so too, he has no one else to count on but Louis Gaspare, a murderer who was being transported by the FBI. As Brodie now has to cooperate with a convicted criminal, he’s about to see some surprising revelations about Gaspare.
Plane Remains a Big Hit 2 Years After Its Premiere
Even though the movie has spent quite some time on streaming for now, it’s not really surprising to see it entering Peacock’s top movie chart, considering all the success it had in the past.
Released in theatres back in 2023, Plane received warm welcome from both critics and viewers, grossing around $75 million against its budget of $25 million; it also garnered favorable reviews, currently holding scores of 79% and 94% from critics and audiences respectively on Rotten Tomatoes.
The movie’s success was so grand it eventually had a sequel greenlit, with Mike Colter set to reprise his role as Louis Gaspare; despite Gerard Butler not being among the leads this time, it’s possible he might come back to the story with a cameo role.
