Ghosts season 6 premiere date: why weekly episodes are delayed to 2027
CBS benched one of its most-watched comedies for half a season. The people who make it are the only ones who should be celebrating.
Ghosts season 6 has no premiere date, and it won't get one this year: CBS moved the show to midseason, so weekly episodes return in early 2027, most likely in the first three months. The 22-episode order means the season will stretch deep into spring and possibly summer. Until then, the network is covering the gap with two hour-long specials that are officially part of season 6 — a Halloween episode on October 29, 2026, and a Die Hard-themed Christmas episode on December 10.
The Halloween special carries the real cargo. Season 5 ended with the show's cruelest cliffhanger to date, Pete vanishing in front of Sam's eyes, and the special picks that storyline up rather than making fans wait for 2027. Whether Pete comes back is a different question; whether you'll know by Halloween is settled.
The actual reason for the delay
CBS didn't bench Ghosts because of Ghosts. The show's Thursday 8:30 slot went to Eternally Yours, a new vampire family comedy that premiered October 8 — created by Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, who are also the creators and showrunners of Ghosts. CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach spelled out the logic at the fall schedule presentation.
"We want to give our new shows the best launch pad possible."

So the network parked its hit to hand the hit's time slot to the hit's own creators. Port and Wiseman first pitched the vampire show eleven years ago and couldn't get it past the pilot stage; after Ghosts became CBS's flagship comedy, the same idea got a straight-to-series order and the Ghosts slot to grow in.
Whatever Thursdays at 8:30 do this season, Port and Wiseman win.
There's a scenario where this gets even more incestuous, in a good way. Eternally Yours is officially a separate universe — vampire couple Charles and Liz (Ed Weeks, Allegra Edwards), 500 years married, settled into an eternal rut in Seattle — but Port told TheWrap he's "very interested" in an eventual crossover between the two shows. The supernatural sitcom universe where the ghosts meet the vampires would also solve CBS's scheduling guilt rather elegantly.

For Ghosts viewers, the practical math is this: four hours of new content in 2026 (the two specials), then an uninterrupted 22-episode run — one upside of the midseason move is fewer reruns and breaks once it starts. The show has premiered in the fall every year since 2021 except season 3, which the strikes pushed to February 2024. That season did fine. This one has a resurrection cliffhanger, a Die Hard parody, and an entire vampire show keeping its seat warm.
