Quick, look, it's still breathing!

Grey's Anatomy fans are experiencing mixed emotions after E! News confirmed that the longest-running primetime medical drama in history will be returning for its 20th season this fall. Despite losing key cast members Ellen Pompeo and Kelly McCreary, and the showrunner Krista Vernoff, the ABC series has managed to stay alive.

The news has generated a range of reactions, with some fans ecstatic to see their favorite medical drama continue. One Twitter user tweeted, "OMG, I can't believe Grey's Anatomy is coming back for Season 20! I'm over the moon!" Another fan chimed in, "This is the best news ever! Grey's Anatomy for life! I'm ready for more drama at Grey Sloan Memorial!"

However, not all fans are convinced that the renewal is a good thing. Some are concerned that the show's quality will decline following the departure of key cast members and the showrunner.

One such skeptical fan commented, "Honestly, I don't know if I can watch #GreysAnatomy without Meredith Grey. It just won't be the same. #EndOfAnEra." Another Twitter user expressed similar concerns: "I love Grey's Anatomy, but maybe it's time to let it go. The show has had a great run, but without Meredith, it feels like it's losing its soul."

Despite these concerns, fans can take comfort in the fact that Ellen Pompeo, who portrayed Meredith Grey for 19 seasons, will return for the Season 19 finale on May 18. Additionally, Deadline reported that Pompeo is likely to return in some capacity for Season 20, along with McCreary, who played Maggie Pierce for nine seasons.

In the meantime, Grey Sloan Memorial will undergo a change in leadership as Krista Vernoff, who has been the showrunner since Season 14, will be replaced by Meg Marinis, an executive producer on the series since Season 15. This change has left some fans hopeful for a fresh direction in the upcoming season.

Yet another Grey's fan enthused on Twitter, "Excited to see what Meg Marinis brings to the table for #GreysAnatomy Season 20! Fresh blood might be just what the show needs!"

Grey's Anatomy airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on ABC with season 19 finale just a few short weeks away.
