Way to ruin a perfect character, Shondaland!

Summary:

  • Grey's Anatomy is an ABC medical procedural drama that has been on the air since 2004.
  • Although the cast has changed many times during its two decades on the air, Jackson Avery remains one of the fan-favorite characters to this day.
  • The only flaw fans saw in Jackson was his complete inability to maintain a love life.

There are not many characters on Grey's Anatomy that could be called good people.

Unfortunately, as happens with many TV shows after a certain number of years, the writers tend to run out of ideas and make the characters do downright stupid or evil things.

Some of Grey's Anatomy's best characters have fallen victim to this.

But for every universally hated Owen Hunt in the fandom, there is Jackson Avery. A character so flawless, it's hard to find anything bad to say about him.

That is, if you are willing to turn a blind eye to his complete inability to have a normal and stable love life.

And even though all the wrongs have finally been righted and it was established in Season 18 that Jackson and April are finally happy together with no one and nothing standing between them, fans are still experiencing scary flashbacks remembering every other girlfriend Jackson managed to pick up.

One of the worst things Jackson did to anyone was his romance with Lexie Grey, which literally did no one any good.

The feelings between her and Mark Sloan were obvious, and the longer he tried to keep her by his side, the more he was just delaying the inevitable.

Considering how close he and Mark had been before, it was a doubly foolish move that's hard to watch today without shuddering.

Jackson and Stephanie was one of the most boring but drama-free relationships on the show, which gave fans a pause.

However, his inability to admit the truth and face his own feelings for April was starting to reach a very pathetic point. If anything, Stephanie deserved someone who really cared about her.

The relationship with Maggie Pierce was probably one of the worst decisions the producers ever made.

Not only because the actors lacked chemistry, and at that point everyone had a strong feeling that all roads for Jackson would still lead to April, but also because they were stepbrother and stepsister. It was just weird to think about and uncomfortable to watch.

No matter how much we love Jackson and April, their relationship was far from perfect or healthy, and Jackson did a lot to make it worse at times.

The tendency to not be honest with his partners definitely carried over from one relationship to the next, causing him to bottle everything up to the point where it just exploded.

Although many fans are still bitter about all the obstacles April and Jackson had to overcome to get together, it's not hard to admit that his messy dating life made for some pretty entertaining television.

If you want to relive all the ups and downs, you can stream Grey's Anatomy on Hulu or Disney Plus.
