Guy Ritchie Walks Out On 'Road House 2' — Fans Already Naming Replacements

Others want no sequel at all.
Guy Ritchie has officially stepped away from directing Road House 2, the sequel to last year’s Amazon MGM reboot starring Jake Gyllenhaal. According to Variety, the reasons behind his exit remain murky, though the film is still slated to kick off production this September, with Will Beall (Bad Boys: Ride or Die) penning the script. Alongside Gyllenhaal, who also produces, the project was eyeing names like Dave Bautista to expand its muscle-heavy cast. Plot details, naturally, are being kept tightly under wraps.
But how are fans reacting to Ritchie’s departure? The comments on Reddit are a lively cocktail of shrugs, hopes and outright disdain.
One user speculated, "He probably left cause he has 100 other movies to film back to back," while another noted, "He’s in post on one (Wife & Dog) and another stuck in limbo (In the Grey). Probably focusing on trying to get both finished."
Some already have a shortlist for his replacement.
"They should get someone like Sam Hargrave or Ilya Naishuller. Both would be good picks for this," one suggested, drawing quick agreement: "+1 for Ilya. He can do inventive fights which would be perfect for this."
Of course, there’s also the inevitable camp rooting for the sequel to crash before it even starts.
"They should stay far away from the sequel to the horrible remake of Road House. Let this sh*t die," one user wrote bluntly. Another couldn’t resist twisting the knife: "Feel bad for Ilya, but Heads of State was at least better than the RH remake."
Whether you’re rooting for a fresh take or hoping this sequel quietly fades away, one thing’s clear: Road House 2 is already stirring up plenty of heat.
