The series emerged from Ritchie’s 2019 criminal drama and has remained one of the biggest hits on Netflix in 2024.

After a disappointing theatre run of his 2024 action comedy The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Guy Ritchie is officially back on track with new exciting plans, and that has a lot to do with his other project, also released last year.

Before the Henry Cavill-led flick bombed in the box office across the world, the writer-director was having the best time after the release of his comedy show Gentlemen on Netflix.

The series initially came as a spinoff of Ritchie’s 2019 movie of the same name and stars Theo James in the leading role. Having come off the success of its predecessor, the series was quick to receive numerous accolades and now, almost a year later, got a major update fans have been waiting for.

Gentlemen Will Have Season 2 After All

Despite Guy Ritchie remaining silent about the hit show’s future, Gentlemen is, apparently, on its way to a second instalment, as the series’ lead has recently confirmed.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Theo James took a moment to stay away from promoting his brand new horror movie The Monkey, revealing that Gentlemen’s season 2 is currently in the works and starts filming sooner than anyone could ever think.

“We start season two of The Gentlemen [ in the spring], which is bigger and darker than season one. I really wanted to — and so did [creator] Guy [Ritchie] — make sure that we evolve the show, and that is the intention. As fun as the first season was, if you do the exact same thing again, it may not be as fun, essentially”, James stated.

Considering this, fans might suggest the work on the new instalment be finished by summer and there’s a chance to see the new episodes’ arrival on Netflix sometime at the end of the year.

However, it is more likely that the second season’s premiere will be pushed to 2026, probably even with the same release window in March that the show’s first season had.

Guy Ritchie’s Gentlemen Franchise Was a Major Success

Though the spinoff series received universal acclaim for its own merits, it was Ritchie’s movie of the same name that paved the way for Netflix’s show.

Starring Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Michelle Dockery, Jeremy Strong, Eddie Marsan, Colin Farrell, and Hugh Grant, Gentlemen had a stunning success in the box office, earning around $115 million against its initial budget of $22 million.

The movie was also praised by both critics and viewers, holding scores of 75% and 84% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes.
