Harrison Ford Says Filming THAT Scene in 1923 Caused Flashbacks to His Scary Real-Life Accident

Coming off a whole list of action-packed adventurous movies he starred in over the last decades, Harrison Ford isn’t a stranger to risky and sometimes even dangerous sequences he was tough enough to handle himself, but that shocking scene in Taylor Sheridan ’s hit show came as a pure perfection due to, well, the actor’s traumatic experience.

A passionate daredevil in real life too, Ford is also a licensed pilot who has repeatedly been a great help for the emergency services in Wyoming, though there was a time when he needed a rescue himself.

Harrison Ford Suffered a Nearly Fatal Plane Crash Back in 2015

This accident in particular wasn’t the first plane crash the actor experienced while helming the vehicle, yet it was the one that almost took his life.

Back in 2015, Ford’s vintage aircraft had engine failure while out there in the sky, and the actor had no other choice but to make an emergency landing somewhere on a golf course.

Ford’s injuries were so bad he eventually had to be taken to hospital with severe lacerations and several broken bones, left without a possibility to go outside for more than a month.

Despite going through a major shock and leaving his family concerned, Ford got back to flying after all and, ironically, received a chance to use his traumatic experience for good in a new role he landed several years later.

Harrison Ford’s Plane Crash Helped Him Nail That Bloody Scene in 1923

In 2022, Ford starred in Taylor Sheridan’s Western series 1923 alongside Helen Mirren, and, according to the latter, she could see how the actor’s scary accident changed his approach to the role.

In an interview with Wall Street Journal, Mirren revealed that, while shooting a gruesome bloody scene for the show, Ford felt like his character had let him go back to those horrible times.

“He’s been carried into the kitchen, dying and covered in blood, and later Harrison did say to me, ‘That was how I was after the accident.' I think, maybe, going through that experience just gave him a very different understanding of what it is to be a sentient human being”, she clarified.

Ford’s plane crash might have seemed a nightmare for his colleagues and friends too, but, as Mirren suggested, it somehow let the actor find a more profound way to connect to the experience of some of his characters, and that’s a silver lining Sheridan’s show needed for sure.
