Even Finn Wolfhard is not okay with how his own character treats Will.

Will Byers' confession to his friend Mike Wheeler was arguably the most heartbreaking dramatic highlight of Stranger Things season 4... only for Mike to completely not get it.

The fourth season of Stranger Things was definitely one of the most dramatic chapters in the history of the Hawkins gang, and not just because the stakes are as high as ever with Vecna's threat looming over the entire small town. It's also because the kids have grown older, and the drama naturally follows.

One particular scene, in which Will Byers clearly tried to communicate his own true feelings for his best friend Mike Wheeler while covering them up with the way Eleven might feel about him, had fans absolutely heartbroken. It also caused much of the fandom to turn against Finn Wolfhard's Mike because he seemed completely clueless and didn't even try to see that his best friend was struggling with something.

When asked by fans how he felt about Mike's lack of action, Finn Wolfhard revealed to GQ that he understands and even shares some of the outrage.

"He's such an idiot," Wolfhard said of Mike. "I don't understand, he's very, very, very clueless. Yeah, it was pretty heartbreaking, actually, to do that scene, of just, like, how do you not understand that your best friend is struggling through something?"

However, Wolfhard noted that he prefers not to use the word "hate", which fans, on the contrary, use a lot when it comes to Mike and his treatment of Will. The actor also said that he always tries to forgive the characters he plays.

Mike Wheeler wasn't the most empathetic guy in season four. Even with his official girlfriend, Eleven, he has trouble expressing his own feelings and acknowledging hers. He only manages to do so at the end of the season. When it comes to Will, the two friends resolve some of the drama, but clearly not all of it, as it seems that the fifth season is heading straight into some sort of love triangle between Will, Mike, and Eleven, as some fans believe.
