Hawkins' Final Battle: 4 'Stranger Things' Finale Theories Based on New Season 5 Teaser

A new way to fight Vecna, Linda Hamilton's role in the plot, and other clues in the teaser for the final season.
On July 16, Netflix released a new teaser for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things. Despite its length of almost three minutes and many action-packed scenes, the plot remains vague.
Still, what we saw is enough to speculate about what awaits us in the final battle for Hawkins.
1. Will Mike Die?
Nancy's tear-stained face as she washes blood off her hands clearly suggests that someone will die. The victim could be Steve, or Jonathan, but it will most likely be Mike.
In an interview with Variety, Finn Wolfhard said that he was "very confused and sad" by the ending of his character's story, though he was pleased with it overall. Does this mean that Mike will not live to see the final credits?
The similar rings on Nancy's and Eleven's hands also suggest impending loss – perhaps they will lose someone equally close to them.
2. Linda Hamilton's Role
The Season 5 teaser revealed a new character played by Linda Hamilton. In the video, her character, Dr. Kay, an armed woman, enters a building with other soldiers. Her attire and appearance suggest that she is a high-ranking soldier or government official.
It's possible that, alongside the military led by Colonel Sullivan, the secret service is also interested in the situation in the town, having sent a person with unlimited powers to Hawkins.
3. A New Weapon Against Vecna
The teaser opens with footage of a radio tower and a countdown to an apparent arson attack. Steve is in a van with a satellite dish, clearly preparing to take action.
The radio tower's pivotal role in the plot is also hinted at by the title of the fifth episode of the upcoming season – "Shock Jock." A "shock jock" is a DJ who broadcasts in a deliberately provocative and inflammatory manner.
The radio tower, the countdown, and the arson suggest that the characters plan to amplify the radio waves to start a fire. Extremely powerful radio waves can ignite certain objects or create sparks.
Additionally, we know from Season 2 that Demogorgons prefer cold and cannot withstand heat. Also, flames effectively contain the spread of the Upside Down vines, so the team has clearly found a new weapon against Vecna.
4. Vecna's Eye
A curious detail can also be seen on the official poster for Season 5 of Stranger Things. Vecna watches the characters ride their bikes, and one of his eyes is covered by a cloud.
In Dungeons & Dragons, there is a powerful, evil artifact that enhances the supernatural abilities of anyone who wears it – it is called the Eye of Vecna. What if Vecna possesses such an artifact?
In order to use its power, the owner must remove an eye and insert the artifact into the empty socket. The Eye of Vecna then magically grows onto the wearer's head. Removing it invariably leads to the owner's death.
