HBO Max's New #1 Movie Is a Stephen King-Approved Sci-Fi Horror Gem With 93% on RT

Companion, starring Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid, was released not so long ago, and it's already managed to impress not only viewers and critics, but Stephen King himself – here's what the author has to say about it.
Stephen King has been the most adapted modern author for several decades, but he also considers himself a big fan of cinema, especially horror.
The author often recommends new releases to his fans (and not just adaptations of his own books), and the opinion of the King of Horror is something worth listening to.
Stephen King's Recent Horror Recommendation Is Companion
Recently, the director praised the latest horror from Drew Hancock – Companion. In his Threads account, King wrote:
“COMPANION: A totally fine horror/science fiction movie. (Also pretty funny.) I wish I'd seen it in the theaters, but watched it on Amazon Prime. Try it.”
Companion is a project that deserves special attention – it was produced by the director of Barbarian, Zach Cregger, and the main roles were played by the young stars – Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid.
What Is Companion About?
Iris is an android that looks and acts like a human, but in reality exists for the comfortable life of her owner, Josh. Iris' program is simple: to be the perfect girl with no desires of her own.
Everything changes when the couple goes to a country house for the weekend, where they meet Josh's friends. As soon as she crosses the threshold, Iris realizes that she feels like an outsider. Those around her treat her not as an equal, but as an exotic accessory.
The situation escalates when one of the guests dies, and Iris finally learns that she is not a person, but an object whose actions can be controlled and whose program can be turned off.
Companion Is a Charming Sci-Fi Horror With Promising Young Stars That Will Make You Laugh
Companion is not a smart post-horror in the spirit of the A24 projects, but a simple movie about toxic relationships and AI. The atmosphere of the film is most reminiscent of an episode of Black Mirror – it is a satire of relationships in the high-tech era.
There is little originality in Companion, but the movie is cheerful and charming. Sophie Thatcher promises to become the new final girl and Jack Quaid exudes a hidden menace and is brilliant in physical comedy.
Companion works better as a comedy than as a thriller or horror. The characters die funny, make witty jokes, and get into ridiculous situations because of their selfishness.
