HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ First Look Already Does One Detail Better Than Movies

HBO's new series has already started fixing the mistakes made in the earlier Harry Potter movies. Here's the first look at the upcoming show.
HBO's highly anticipated Harry Potter series has officially started filming. Cameras are finally rolling on what promises to be a fresh take on the beloved story.
The good news: Warner Bros. Discovery boldly promised that this new show “will be a faithful adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter books.”
Even better news? They are keeping their promise! With the first Harry Potter look, it's safe to say that they're heading into the right direction.
First ‘Harry Potter’ Set Photo Reveals a Nice Surprise
The official image of Dominic McLaughlin as our new Harry has been released. And it's got us excited for the upcoming HBO series, all because of one small but significant detail.
The main detail: Harry's scar. It actually looks realistic this time around! Unlike the symmetrical, almost stylized scar we saw on Daniel Radcliffe's forehead for eight movies, McLaughlin's scar actually resembles a real lightning bolt.
What This Means for ‘Harry Potter's’ Future
One may think that this is no big deal, but it actually gave us a huge inside look into the HBO adaptation. The scar in particular just showed us a bigger commitment to bringing the magical world to life in a way that feels authentic and true to the books.
The series format also gives the creators more room to explore storylines and characters that got cut from the movies. We might actually get all the good stuff like S.P.E.W. and the Marauders' backstory.
Fans Praise the Scar in ‘Harry Potter’ First Look
“I like that his scar looks like an actual scar and not a corny lighting symbol,” Redditor HearTheEkko wrote.
“Looks like they went with a more natural-looking shape of the scar. Not a full-on lightning, but not like in the movies either. I love it,” another fan, TremendouslyRiddled on Reddit said.
“[It] looks more realistically scar-like and less like an “N” drawn on with a sharpie,” Redditor chocciehobnob said.
When Will HBO's ‘Harry Potter’ Come Out?
Harry Potter Season 1 is set to come out in 2027, as WBD announced.
