Here’s Why Pedro Pascal Isn’t in ‘Weapons’ (And Why No One’s Sad About It)

The Last of Us’ actor dropped out of Zach Cregger’s new film after 2023 strikes, with Josh Brolin filling in.
Deny this or not, it seems like it’s in fact Pedro Pascal’s world, and we’re just living in it.
Having risen to stardom just around a decade ago thanks to a role in Game of Thrones, Pascal went on to release several movies per year, with at least three of them dominating theatres worldwide this summer.
While the actor is typically seen in dramas or comedies, Zach Cregger’s long-awaited horror Weapons was also eyeing Pascal for a leading role, which eventually never happened.
However, many fans are convinced the movie isn’t losing much after all, despite aiming at giving Pascal the role pattern he might have also become famous for.
Pedro Pascal Dropped Out of ‘Weapons’ Due to Tight Schedule
It’s fair to say the actor has been in pretty much everything for the couple of recent years, so no wonder he just couldn’t fit one more filming period into his schedule, even if he initially considered doing so.
As Weapons’ director Zach Cregger revealed in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Pascal had already been cast for the leading role in the movie when the 2023 strikes happened and turned the industry into an utter mess.
“I had a whole different cast for this movie. And then we had the strike, and then Pedro Pascal’s schedule threw us into turmoil. I had to recast the entire movie”, Cregger said, adding that the production was delayed until the time when Pascal couldn’t make it to the set.
“The strikes delayed us, and then when you delay, people’s schedules get conflicts, and then you’re back at square one. I bear no ill will towards anybody. We just kept getting delayed and delayed. It’s like a domino effect. So I had to start over again”, Cregger stated.
‘Weapons’ Is Doing Just Fine Without Pedro Pascal, Fans Say
Even though many might have wished they’d see Pascal playing a father figure once again, there have been enough opportunities to see him on both small and big screens in the last several months, which doesn’t apply to John Brolin who in Weapons portrays the father of one of the missing kids.
“It would have been pretty funny to see Pascal and Julia Garner together in two completely opposite movies like 3 weeks apart”, Redditor MariachiMacabre wrote in a thread, referring to Pascal and Garner both starring in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
“Brolin seems like an easy upgrade tbh. I love Pedro but he doesn't have the same gravitas”, Gwoardinn suggested.
“The Last of Us, Fantastic 4, Materialists, Eddington, Gladiator 2, Mandalorian, he has basically hands in every major entertainment entity, it's crazy”, woahwoahvicky commented.
Weapons is currently playing in theatres worldwide.
