Many Superman films have been made, but the box office record was achieved when Batman was added to the mix – ultimately, achieving financial success and critical failure.

With a huge budget and the highest fan expectations, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was an anticipated project that suffered from its own ambition.

For some, it became the embodiment of comics; for most, however, it became the example of vulgarity and bad taste. Despite its record-breaking box office earnings of $874 million, Dawn of Justice became the biggest failure in the history of both Superman and Batman.

Superman defeats General Zod in the battle for Earth, but at a high price. Gotham is destroyed, many have lost loved ones, and people now live in constant fear.

Society is divided: some think of Superman as a messiah, while others thirst for revenge. Batman comes to the city's defense, he believes that Superman has gone too far. But while the superheroes are sorting things out, hidden evil is gaining strength.

'Dawn of Justice' Is Now Remembered Not As a Great Superhero Film, But as a Meme

Even before the movie's release, the internet was filled with enthusiastic fan reactions, and the film's rating on IMDb soared to 10 points immediately after the first trailer was released. And we must admit, that trailer did look cool.

If only Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice were half as cool as the trailer. Snyder's auteur style reached its peak here with drawn-out action scenes, pathetic dialogue, biblical references, and, of course, slow motion.

The most painful aspect of the film, however, was the dramaturgy, including the conflict and reconciliation between Batman and Superman. Today, it is remembered not as an epochal episode for the geek community but as an internet meme.

Like 'Justice League', 'Dawn of Justice' Also Has a Director's Cut that Makes It Better

While the Justice League case is the most famous, almost every Zack Snyder movie has undergone significant editing.

There is also a Director's Cut of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It improves upon the awkward and clunky theatrical version: the characters' motivations no longer feel forced, Lois' character evolves from a damsel in distress into an important participant in the events, and the film as a whole feels more cohesive.
