The all-time favorite Christmas movie, Home Alone, is full of plot holes, or is it? It turns out that one of the movie's biggest inconsistencies has a rational explanation.

As the magical time of year approaches, many viewers will soon be making hot chocolate and curling up under a blanket to re-watch the Christmas classic, Home Alone. For the majority of viewers, the 1990s movie feels like warm nostalgia. But the older we get, the harder it is to get over some of the plot inconsistencies.

Relax, Redditors have already explained the movie's biggest plot hole, and there's no need to spill your hot chocolate all over the blanket to express your outrage.

Viewers have been talking about this plot hole for years, and recent technological developments have only made things worse.

The "Kevin's Mom" arc relies on the fact that the McAllisters' phone lines are down due to the tree damage, which also caused their alarm clocks to reset to midnight, making them late for the airport. Viewers assume that the family cannot reach Kevin when they discover his absence in Paris because the phones are down.

But later we see Kevin calling Little Nero's to order his own cheese pizza. While this leads to a hilarious scene with a delivery boy, it also creates a rather big plot hole.

Zoomers Think There's a Giant Plot Hole in Both Home Alone 1 and 2

How could Kevin order pizza if all the phones were down? This question was asked too many times before and will be asked again for sure. The question just haunts all Christmas admirers out there. Fortunately, Redditor u/phire has given a perfectly logical explanation that totally eliminates the issue.

"I always assumed the tree actually severed the main trunk line to the whole town, but local calls within the same exchange still worked," the Redditor wrote.

Yes, it is that simple. What modern viewers tend to forget is that Home Alone was filmed in the 90s, when phone networks were much more complicated. Long-distance calls were made over long-distance lines, and local calls required separate lines, which could have remained intact during the damage in the movie.

Now you have a perfectly good explanation for Home Alone's biggest plot hole. You'll probably have to rephrase it in the future, though, when a younger generation starts asking, "Why didn't Kevin's parents just call his cell?
