Even after the whole Game of Thrones mess, fans still can't get used to deaths.

Warning: the following article contains spoilers for House of the Dragon episode 8

Episode 8 was definitely a tough one for the Viserys stans out there. Despite having battled his leprosy for way over ten years, the king appears to be looking his worst in the new episode, and in the end, the disease claims his life. But the way Viserys handled it was heart-wrenching and emotional for pretty much everyone in the fandom.

After Rhaenyra begged him to defend her one last time and voice his support to her and her kids, Viserys, despite his weakness, appeared in the throne room to yet again stand by his heiress.

It was a true fight for him: every step was visibly hurting, but at some point, when he rejected the help of the guards, a certain someone approached him to lend a hand. It was Viserys' brother Daemon, who picked up the crown that has fallen from the king's head, helped him sit on the throne and placed the crown back on him.

Naturally, the fans' hearts were conquered.

Albeit painful to watch — and dramatic to resolve — the scene turned out to be one of the most compelling in the entire season, fans ruled.

"That scene made me cry in the club. They've always had their disagreements and differences but damn, brothers will always love one another." – @Jenanigans52218

But Viserys' support for Rhaenyra appeared to be even stronger than his daughter even knew. When Alicent was sitting by Viserys' bed at night, the king — apparently thinking he was talking to Rhaenyra — yet again said that he believed that it is his daughter's destiny to unite the realm.

What really pained the fans was not only the fact that Alicent certainly understood his words in her own different way, but also how Rhaenyra never got the chance to know that her father was on her side until his last breath.

Oh, and yet another heartbreaking fans theory...

"Viserys last words were "My Love" and i really think he saw Aemma welcoming him into the afterlife. soulmates reunited again." – @fortargaryen

House of the Dragon is just two episodes away from the end of season 1, with Dance of the Dragons being right around the corner. However, it's unclear whether the Targaryen civil war will start and end in two remaining episodes, or will be stretched into season 2.

New episodes arrive on HBO Max every Sunday, with the finale scheduled to premiere on October 23.
