'House of the Dragon' Season 3 Episode 6 Explained: What Happened to Corlys Velaryon?

The sixth episode of Season 3 of House of the Dragon once again attempts to pick up steam as tensions rise – the episode features one of the series' most high-profile deaths, plenty of intrigue, and an assassination attempt on the "king."

However, the episode didn't meet all viewer expectations, and some characters continue to make the same mistakes – we break down the episode's key events.

The Inglorious Death of Criston Cole

The episode begins with the remnants of the Green army, led by Criston Cole, falling into a trap set by the Northerners and Rivermen. Cole suggests resolving the conflict through a duel, but the Blacks have no intention of delaying the inevitable – Alysanne Blackwood shoots him down with an arrow.

Cole meets an ignominious end, as described in the book Fire & Blood. However, viewers expected more from this scene, especially after actor Fabien Frankel expressed his admiration for filming the battle in an interview.

A Crisis of Power in King's Landing

In the capital, the Gold Cloaks are deserting in droves while the commoners are flocking to Rhaenyra to complain about the lack of safety and resources. The queen finds a scapegoat in the Master of Coin, but the people remain unappeased.

Daemon captures a Hightower mercenary and beats Ulf the White in public, paving the way for the mercenary to defect to the Greens. A rebellion is brewing right under Rhaenyra's nose.

Aegon and Larys' Wanderings Continue

Aegon, Larys, and Tyland Lannister fled Rook's Rest and planned to sail to Essos. Tyland suggests that the king head to Casterly Rock, but Aegon would rather step out of the game for the time being.

The Events at Tumbleton

Gwayne Hightower visits Ormund, who boasts about undermining Rhaenyra's power from within. Daeron admits that he realizes Ormund is using him to become the second most powerful man after the king.

Ormund's plans nearly fall apart when he and Daeron are attacked by Rhaenyra's mercenaries. Enraged, Ormund vows revenge.

Meanwhile, Rhaenyra and Alicent conspire again: Alicent agrees to become a double agent and travel to Harrenhal to help eliminate her own son, Aemond.

What Happened to Corlys Velaryon & What Alys Rivers Was Hiding

In the finale of the episode, Corlys Velaryon and his group are ambushed by Hightower forces – Corlys is captured by Ser Jon Roxton. Before this happens, Corlys discovers that Tyland Lannister has survived and informs Alyn of Hull, who should relay the news to Rhaenyra.

While hiding at Harrenhal, Aemond grows closer to the witch Alys Rivers. She shows the prince five dragon eggs hidden within the castle and promises him a great future. The nature of these eggs and their future role remain a mystery.
