How did Professor T's father die? What the Professor T season 3 finale finally revealed about the Tempest family — and what Ben Miller says about the twist that rewired the show.
For two and a half seasons, Professor T let Jasper Tempest — and us — believe one simple, terrible thing: his father hanged himself, and little Jasper found the body. It explained the gloves. It explained the rituals. It explained basically everything about the man except the cravats.
Then the season 3 finale walked into the room, opened a dusty box, and detonated the whole premise.
What was in the attic
Adelaide, Jasper's magnificently terrifying mother, had ordered the Dean to destroy a stash of her old diaries and one other item hidden in her attic. Jasper got there first. Alongside the diaries sat a broken trophy — spattered with what looked very much like old blood. Touching it cracked open a memory he'd sealed for decades.
The truth, once Adelaide finally confessed: there was no suicide. Jasper's father came home drunk and violent, attacked Adelaide, then choked young Jasper. Adelaide hit her husband with the trophy to save her son — and killed him. She and the Dean staged the hanging, and the lie held for a lifetime.

Jasper seriously considered reporting his own mother to the police, because of course he did, he's Jasper. Instead, mother and son made peace, and he agreed to keep the secret. Ben Miller has called the reveal seismic for his character:
"He realises that his mother made a huge sacrifice for him," Miller said of the moment Jasper learns he'd blamed the wrong parent all along.
And if you thought the show would let the matter rest there — cute. Emma Naomi has hinted the father storyline still isn't done, with more revelations promised down the line. The box is open now. Boxes don't close.
