How Does Delirium Know Matthew in 'The Sandman'?

Netflix’s fantasy drama series based on Neil Gaiman’s comic book, The Sandman is getting closer to its finale — and fans are happy its creators made this small moment important.
It might be tough for The Sandman’s fans to say goodbye to the series after just two seasons, but at least they can now add Netflix’s hit show to the list of faithful book adaptations.
Based on Neil Gaiman’s 1996 comic book of the same name, The Sandman primarily follows Morpheus, some sort of personification of dreams and nightmares who, while being a member of the Endless family, gets free from an occult ritual that kept him hostage for more than a hundred years.
The show is yet to continue and then wrap its story in the upcoming second season set to be released in July, though many fans have already prepared all the praise for The Sandman’s creators just due to this moment in one of the sneak peeks.
‘The Sandman’ Season 2 Sneak Peek Is Vocal About Delirium and Matthew’s Relationship
Even though it might not be a moment that important in the original comic book as well, the TV version’s creators made sure that the mention of Delirium, the youngest in the Endless family, and Matthew, Morpheus’ raven companion who used to be a human, actually knowing each other gets into the second season no matter what.
“This looks good; guess I'll have to reactivate my Netflix membership. Nice nod/rememberance to Delirium knowing Matthew (Cable). I'm glad they kept that in”, Redditor its_the_terranaut commented in a series-related thread.
How Do Delirium and Matthew Actually Know Each Other?
There are various theories speculating on how exactly the characters met each other, with Neil Gaiman himself once suggesting that no one knows that for sure since Delirium is able to know things that nobody else does, and there’s no clear explanation for that either.
However, one such theory suggests that, since Delirium doesn’t experience reality like her siblings or literally anyone else, she might have in fact met Matthew’s soul in a different form or timeline at some point.
Apart from that, others also think Delirium could have known Matthew at the time he was a human being, which is what he doesn’t remember while existing as a raven right now.
When Will ‘Sandman’ Season 2 Be Released?
The second season’s first part will be released on Netflix on July 3 while the second part will arrive on the platform on July 24.
Apart from that, a special bonus episode will also premiere on July 31.
