The Handmaid's Tale is now in its season 6, but the story of Gilead is far from over. However, those who have read the original book may already know how it all ends. Stick with us to find out for yourself.

The Handmaid’s Tale is a Hulu series that premiered in 2017 and since then became one of the most popular shows on the platform. There are six seasons of the series now and the TV story has actually gone way beyond the source material, which is Margaret Atwood's novel of the same name.

Like the original book, The Handmaid's Tale is set in a dystopian America, now ruled by a totalitarian regime called Gilead, but the 1985 book leaves us with far less details.

While the show began almost as a scene-for-scene duplicate of the book, it has expanded considerably. This is especially true of the role of its main character, June Osborne, portrayed by Elisabeth Moss.

The Handmaid's Tale novel ends at roughly the same point in the story as the end of the show's first season.

In the book, June reveals to Nick that she is pregnant, and later a van arrives to take her away without the Commander's knowledge. Nick tells her to trust him, and June climbs in, not knowing what to expect. June's fate is intentionally left unknown.

In both versions, she steps into an unmarked van, unsure of where it's taking her or what comes next. This beat-for-beat alignment with the novel was a conscious decision by the show’s creators, preserving the book’s uncertain ending even though they planned to continue the story in future seasons.
