Pregnancy in Silo 18 is not a private matter. Every woman carries a birth-control implant, and permission to conceive is handed out by lottery — the whole series opened with a couple denied one. So a mechanic quietly expecting a baby is a small act of sabotage.

Shirley Campbell (Remmie Milner) got there the same way Allison Becker did in season 1: the implant came out. The difference is that Knox (Shane McRae) did it himself, with supplies lifted from the dentist so it wouldn't hurt, and by his own account was far more upset about cutting into her than she was.

What Juliette works out

The reveal lands in episode 8, "Gray Goo", which went up on Apple TV on 21 August 2026. Juliette and Shirley are together during preparations to cap the Safeguard pipe when Juliette clocks that something has been kept from her, and asks a very specific question: did Knox remove it, or did Shirley do it herself?

Sharp-eyed viewers had a head start. Back in episode 3, the camera lingered on a badly healed scar on Shirley's arm — in exactly the spot the implant sits.

Why Shirley hid it from her best friend

Because she knew what Juliette would do with the information. The mission involves poison lines, Judicial, and a decent chance of dying, and Shirley expected to be pulled off it.

She'd already run the same play two episodes earlier. In episode 6, when Juliette tried to send her and Knox to Silo 17, Knox objected on the grounds that she was pregnant — and Shirley talked him out of telling Juliette. The Algorithm blocked the pair anyway as too valuable to Silo 18, so Juliette offered up Lukas Kyle and Patrick Kennedy instead.

Does the show actually confirm a pregnancy?

This is where recaps split, and it's worth being precise:

  • What's shown — the implant is gone, Knox removed it, and the two of them decided together.
  • What isn't — no test, no scan, no line of dialogue in which anyone says the word.
  • What's stated earlier — Knox tells Juliette outright in episode 6 that Shirley is pregnant, which is the strongest evidence on the table.

So the honest position is that the show treats it as settled without ever documenting it.

Milner has said the season put a lot of weight on Shirley's shoulders. Speaking to Country & Town House in 2026 about where the character starts season 3:

"Shirley is carrying a lot of heartbreak."

Two episodes remain as of 31 August 2026: "Farewell" aired on 28 August, and the finale, "Troy", arrives on 4 September. Silo has been renewed for a fourth and final season.

For the record: Milner was expecting her own second child around the time the season went out.
