How Jenna Ortega Became Wednesday: Fencing, German, and Cello Challenges

The actress made an incredible effort to fully become Wednesday.
Most of us first really noticed Jenna Ortega in Wednesday, where she plays this dark, sarcastic, and tough-as-nails character — almost like nothing could pierce her.
But in reality, Jenna has very little in common with Wednesday. She’s far from her brooding, deadpan persona, which makes her performance all the more impressive.
To truly inhabit the role, Jenna had to throw herself into a series of completely new challenges: fencing, speaking German, rowing, and even learning the cello.
The cello, in particular, was a major hurdle — after relocating to Romania for filming, she had to find a new teacher, and the piece she performed was originally written for two instruments, not one. It’s the kind of commitment that really shows in her performance.
Knowing all this, I can’t help but admire her even more. Jenna doesn’t just act the part; she transforms into a character who is so different from herself, bringing a chilling, captivating authenticity to the screen.
It’s a striking reminder that behind every compelling performance is a lot of hard work, determination, and courage to step well outside your comfort zone.
