How to Watch All Yellowstone Spinoffs in Order, Explained

It’s easy to get lost in Taylor Sheridan’s Western-y world, but there are several ways to enjoy the puzzling story.
Taylor Sheridan ’s own TV universe is growing faster than Marvel’s multidimensional superhero movie series, and it might be hard for those new to Yellowstone to grasp the whole idea with its numerous prequels and spinoffs.
Now boasting of only two released shows that expand Sheridan’s Wild West-themed world, Yellowstone is about to get several more new installments delving into different parts of the Dutton family’s complex history.
However, there is more than just one way to see them all without getting lost, so you choose whichever you like the most.
How to Watch Yellowstone’s Franchise Shows in Chronological Order
Here is the chronological order one would typically watch the Yellowstone shows in:
- 1883
- 1923
- Yellowstone
If you want to track down the Duttons’ origins from the very beginning to modern days, some Yellowstone fans might suggest 1883 is the best series to start with. The first prequel to Yellowstone, 1883 sees the first generations of the Duttons settling down in Montana after they flee from Texas seeking a better life.
It then makes sense to move on to 1923 which follows the life of the Dutton family’s next generations that have to witness the Great Depression and the Wall Street Crash in 1929.
After that, you’re safe to start Yellowstone, though in between Sheridan’s upcoming prequel series titled 1944 might arrive.
Yellowstone Fans Suggest a Different Watch Order
Even though it makes more sense to see the story unfolding in its chronological order, Sheridan’s fans think it’s better to follow the one in which all of those series arrived on the screen.
“I would say Yellowstone then 1883 then 1923. 1883 and 1923 are set so far back in time and in my opinion made more like movies. If you start with them you may be tempted to give Yellowstone the boot. Now if you start with Yellowstone at least it will pull you into the fantasy world/soap opera feel and once done you will want to see how and why it all started and I believe you will appreciate 1883 and 1923 more”, Redditor Alpha---Omega suggested to a newcomer in Sheridan’s universe in a thread.
There were other options to consider, however.
“Start with the first 2-3 seasons of Yellowstone, wait until you see the cameo from Tim McGraw & then watch 1883 followed by 1923. Then you can watch the rest of Yellowstone”, cCriticalMass76 shared.
