It still remains unknown from both the movie and the book whether Lucy survives it or not. However, in a recent SXSW interview with Deadline Rachel Zegler expressed her genuine belief that her heroine can be alive, citing Olivia Rodrigo’s song Can’t Catch Me Now, playing during the movie’s credits: “She’s in the trees, she’s in the breeze”.

Besides, the actress shared that she knew nothing of the potential Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes sequel and its plot, but if so, she said “it would be so fun [for her] to go back,” remaining highly optimistic about continuing reprising the role of Lucy Gray.

There are many speculations about Lucy Gray's fate after the first Hunger Games prequel, including the assumption that she survived Snow’s pursuit and later joined the protest in District 13 or even became its strict leader, President Alma Coin, whose roots are still untraced. Besides, the origin of Panem’s resistance movement and its symbol, Mockingjay, presents a big topic for exploration and answering the remaining questions.

Fans’ opinions about the expansion of the Hunger Games franchise have been divided. Since it has been rumored Suzanne Collins is already writing the next Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes book, some users agree they would “read anything this woman writes about Panem”, while others complain it’s time to stop violating the franchise.

Nevertheless, now we don’t have neither book nor movie continuations, so we can only wait for updates, build other theories and rewatch the prequel on Prime Video.
