'I Know What You Did Last Summer': Who Is the Killer?

Although I Know What You Did Last Summer received mixed reviews from critics, one thing can't be taken away from the movie – its shocking ending with the revelation of the killer's identity. Here's who carried out the massacre in Southport.
I Know What You Did Last Summer, which was released on July 18, has the franchise's most shocking ending. The identity of the new maniac, nicknamed the Fisherman, will make you see the events of the first two movies in a new light.
Here is who committed the massacre in Southport, and how you could identify the killer before his on-screen exposure.
What Is 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' About?
On the Fourth of July, Ava and her friends, Danica, Teddy, and Milo, decided to go to their favorite spot to watch the fireworks. They also invited Stevie, an old friend who had recently left a rehabilitation center.
While driving, Teddy did not notice a car approaching in the oncoming lane. The driver swerved and fell off a cliff. The friends fled the scene and agreed not to tell anyone about the tragedy. Teddy's influential father, Grant, helped them cover their tracks.
A year later, a man wearing a fisherman's coat with a hook opened a hunt for Ava and her friends. The story repeated itself from 28 years ago – in 1997, Julie, Ray, Helen, and Barry had gone through the same nightmare.
Then, only Julie and Ray survived. Julie left Southport and became a psychology professor, while Ray stayed in the city and turned out to be Stevie's boss.
Who Is the Killer in 'I Know What You Did Last Summer'?
In the finale, it was revealed that Stevie and Ray were the killers. Stevie was friends with Sam Cooper, the victim of the car accident. On the night of the accident, Stevie tried to convince her friends to help the driver and go to the police, but they wouldn't listen to her.
Ray, on the other hand, had been driven mad by the tragedy that happened in the 90s. The movie showed how painful experience can affect people differently depending on how they cope with trauma.
Julie channeled her pain into science, while Ray suppressed his. Ray was also angry at Grant for hiding the dark details of the Southport massacre from the public in the 1990s for financial gain.
Ultimately, Ray died while Stevie survived. Of the five people involved in the accident, Ava and Danica survived as well.
Tyler's Death Hinted at the Identity of the Killer
Ava left Southport after the accident but returned a year later for Danica's bachelorette party. On the plane, she met Tyler, a podcaster and fan of the Fisherman.
However, Danica's fiancé became the Fisherman's first victim. Therefore, Ava and her friends decided to investigate the story from 30 years ago.
Ava asked Tyler for help, and the podcaster gave her a tour of the closed department store where Helen and Elsa were killed in the first movie.
While there, Tyler encountered the Fisherman, who killed her. Before her death, however, it became clear that she recognized the madman's face. Of all the characters, she had only met Ava and Milo. Therefore, suspicion could have fallen on Milo, but he was killed soon after.
It probably wouldn't have been difficult for Tyler to find a photo of Julie and Ray. Julie had not yet returned to Southport at that point. By elimination, it was possible to guess that Ray was the killer.
