I Now Seriously Doubt James Gunn's 'Superman' Will Get a Sequel

DC fans just got all hyped up after James Gunn’s latest update, but I actually love a different idea that others can’t stop talking about right now.
It’s been less than a month for James Gunn’s Superman in the world box office, and something in the air tells us that David Corenswet may be putting his superhero cape on again in the near future – or not just yet.
The movie, also starring Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult, has so far reached more than $520 million in theatres worldwide, sparking even more speculations about a possible sequel that to me still remains a confusing matter.
However, I guess it’s not as simple as it might seem to many fans of the DC character – and, honestly, Gunn’s recent update doesn’t help either.
Instead, his fans are really eager to see the continuation of the director’s other smash hit, and I’m totally in for this one.
James Gunn Teases Sequel Writing, but Not Necessarily for ‘Superman’
Even though Superman’s overwhelming success in the box office will likely guarantee the movie more than just one sequel, I don’t think the superhero’s story is the only one that James Gunn potentially is working on right now.
In one of his posts on Threads, the director recently made Superman go viral again when, replying to a fan that asked about Gunn’s time for relaxation after the press tour, he revealed that he was in fact writing some sort of sequel for, well, probably Superman and probably not.
“Peacemaker press!! And sequel writing!!!” Gunn wrote, later answering to another fan by saying that he had just teased “the sequel”.
Do we really need to guess which movie exactly those fans meant? I doubt that, but Gunn’s response still doesn’t make much sense – especially since he never said anything specific about working on a Superman sequel anyway.
Fans Think James Gunn Might Be Going Further With ‘Scooby-Doo’ Sequel
While DC fans still keep their hope that Gunn would be releasing a sequel to Superman anytime soon, others suggested that the director might have had a change of heart and decided to go back to his other hit franchise’s cancelled third movie — which I’m sure Scooby-Doo fans would rush to see.
“He just said sequel writing. He didn't say to what. He's writing Scooby-Doo 3”, Redditor Lost-Cow-1126 commented in a news-related thread.
“He’s mentioned this before. It’s not Superman 2. It’s just a movie that features Superman. And it’s not World Finest either”, Aromatic-Cupcake4802 clarified.
Talking about Scooby-Doo 3, the movie isn’t any kind of fans’ wishful thinking and was in fact planned as a sequel to Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed released back in 2004.
Despite Warner Bros. having greenlit the third instalment, it was ultimately cancelled by Gunn himself who was disappointed by the second film’s $180 gross in the box office (it wasn’t even that bad, but we have no say in this anyway).
Since the movie never came to be after all, it’s not that surprising to see many fans cheering for Scooby-Doo over a Superman film which, ironically, might not even feature the superhero as a lead at all.
