Eyes of Wakanda had many chances to become a promising project but blew them all, and you can't convince me otherwise.

After several years of failures, it would seem that Marvel is finally on the rise. Both Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps received positive reviews from critics and viewers. Next in line is the animated miniseries Eyes of Wakanda.

Although the project, released on August 1, has high scores, don't rush to renew your Disney+ subscription – I watched Eyes of Wakanda, and it was far from good.

What Is 'Eyes of Wakanda' About?

Warriors from Wakanda are dispatched to various corners of the globe to retrieve powerful artifacts crafted from vibranium, a rare material that fueled Wakanda's remarkable progress.

The characters travel to Crete in 1260 BC, Troy a few decades later, China in 1400 AD, and Ethiopia in 1896.

No Episode of 'Eyes of Wakanda' Offers a Truly Gripping and Exciting Story

Eyes of Wakanda is an anthology series. Three episodes are united by the characters' common goal, but otherwise do not intersect.

Only the final fourth episode attempts to serve as a unifying link, but not in the most impressive or resourceful way. And the previous three episodes' storylines suffer from a number of common shortcomings.

'Eyes of Wakanda' Is Full of Ridiculous Conventions

One of the main problems with Eyes of Wakanda is that it relies too heavily on obvious sci-fi conventions.

For example, we see that thousands of years ago, the Wakandans had superior technology compared to other peoples, to the point that many of the difficulties depicted in the series seem implausible.

These conventions seem like blatant stretches that make the series too naive, unconvincing, and sometimes even ridiculous.

Skipping 'Eyes of Wakanda' Won't Affect Your Knowledge of the MCU

In general, Eyes of Wakanda can be considered an independent project within the universe – it doesn't refer to other Marvel movies or series.

Moreover, it only conditionally intersects with movies about Black Panther. Therefore, those who want to get acquainted with this project don't need to worry about gaps in their knowledge of the cinematic universe.

Marvel has yet to produce a truly outstanding animated project, and Eyes of Wakanda was no exception. It is an unnecessary animated series full of conventions and flat characters.

What Did Critics & Viewers Think of 'Eyes of Wakanda'?

  • Eyes of Wakanda has 93% from critics and 70% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.

  • On IMDb, the series has a score of 6.4/10.
