You should all shave right now, because after years away, Sherlock is coming back.

Summary:

  • BBC’s Sherlock hasn’t been available on major streaming platforms since it left Netflix in 2021.
  • On March 26, 2024, the popular British TV show will join Hulu and become available for the US audience.
  • In 2010, Sherlock revitalized the detective genre, making brilliant PIs into rockstars once again.

Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories about Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson changed our culture forever. The iconic detective duo birthed countless adaptations, remakes, parodies, and rip-offs and became their own genre. If you were to take a shot for every single Sherlock-related movie and TV show in existence, you end up in the hospital before even reaching the first 10%.

But if Sherlock Holmes stories are a genre of their own, then Sherlock Holmes stories set in modern days are its proudest subgenre. And it’s completely ruled over by BBC’s unmatched Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman!

Having run for seven years, Sherlock didn’t exactly spoil its fans with the abundance of content. The show only has four seasons, each of them consisting of just three episodes — plus the notorious Christmas special — but each episode is a standalone movie in its own right with the run time between 90 and 120 minutes.

Despite its overwhelming popularity, it’s been frustratingly hard to watch Sherlock in the past three years: BCC’s iconic TV show left Netflix back in 2021 and until now, wasn’t present on any of the major streaming platforms. If you wanted to watch Sherlock, you had to VPN your way to Great Britain, which wasn’t ideal whatsoever.

But now, Sherlock is back — on Hulu, no less! The series will be re-released on March 26, 2024, and will finally be available for streaming without any additional shenanigans. So be good little Dr. Watsons and go shave in advance: Papa Holmes is back in town. You thought he was gone forever, didn’t you?

Detective and mystery stories have always captivated readers and viewers Unlike most other genres, they actively encourage the audience to become part of the journey and try to unravel the secrets before protagonists do, and people get an equally strong kick when they are proven to have been right all along and when they’re shown the real events they misinterpreted.

But BBC’s Sherlock changed the game. The show premiered in 2010 and immediately took over the world, making millions of people diehard detective fans and increasing Arthur Conan Doyle’s books sales tremendously. Ever since Sherlock, the detective genre has been living a new and much better life, with a new show and movie being created every other day — and we’re all here for it.
