What Is 'The Disaster Artist' About?
In 1998, aspiring actor Greg Sestero met Tommy Wiseau, an eccentric and mysterious guy with a suspiciously large fortune who also dreamed of stardom, in an acting class. Tommy won Greg over with his uninhibited nature and determination, and the two became close friends.
Soon, Tommy convinces Greg to move to Hollywood with him, however, they find no luck in the Dream Factory. In a moment of desperation, Greg suggests that they make a movie themselves.
Tommy embraces the idea and pours millions of dollars into a project in which he serves as screenwriter, director, producer, and lead actor – it quickly becomes apparent that Wiseau lacks talent in all of these roles.

James Franco delivers one of the best performances of his career as Tommy Wiseau – he doesn't just mimic the man's appearance and mannerisms, he captures the character's essence.
The Wiseau portrayed on screen is a vulnerable, childlike, and deeply lonely man who yearns sincerely to share his artistic vision with the world. He lacks so much talent that he ends up making a heartfelt drama that the audience thinks is an ironic comedy and roars with laughter.
Franco is joined by Dave Franco as Greg and Seth Rogen, as well as a host of other Hollywood comedians in cameo roles.
Together, they meticulously recreated about 20 minutes of The Room, ensuring that even viewers who have never seen Wiseau's original film understand exactly what kind of movie he created.
