Are you hunting for another show that will absolutely destroy you? Then I have something that you might find very intriguing.

I'm not exactly sure why I'm so drawn to anything that can make me ugly cry, but this genre of movies and TV shows has long been a favorite of mine. And it takes a lot of thought behind a project to actually make its viewers shed a tear or two.

That's why Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Fleabag became so popular – it simply makes you feel and that, believe it or not, is actually a pretty rare gift. A gift that Margaret Qualley has as well.

You see, Fleabag left a deep mark on me, and it's been a while since any show could get me in that state of mind. Until recently, I stumbled upon the 2021 Margaret Qualley drama that forever raised my bar for emotional stories.

Maid (2021) Is The Most Important Show You're Haven't Watched Yet

Thus I present to you Maid, a mini series inspired by a real story of Stephanie Land that won't leave you indifferent.

The plot follows Alex (Margaret Qualley), a young mother who struggles to provide for her daughter and herself after leaving the emotionally abusive partner. She faces it all in the most brutal real-life way possible.

Alex's story is raw, honest and at times absolutely heartbreaking. The show is special in the way that it portrays resilience without romanticizing poverty (something that doesn't happen a lot).

Margaret Qualley Deserved an Emmy for This

And when I say that Qualley really should have gotten that Emmy back in 2022, I really mean it.

Qualley's performance as Alex is nothing short of phenomenal. The way she captures the quiet desperation, determination and love for her daughter is so authentic it hurts. There are scenes where she doesn't even need to speak. Her eyes tell the whole story.

Moreover, her chemistry with other actors is exceptional. The relationship between Margaret Qualley and Rylea Nevaeh Whittet (who plays her daughter) feels so real and lived-in. And the scenes between Qualley and her real-life mom Andie MacDowell (who plays her character's mother) shows some next-level emotional complexity.

Maid Matters Now More Than Ever

The topics of mental health and money struggles are becoming more and more important with each passing day, but few shows manage to capture these issues with such honesty.

Maid really was brave enough to hold up a mirror to society and ask some pretty uncomfortable questions about how we treat single mothers, domestic abuse survivors, and people living in poverty.

If you haven't watched it yet, you really need to give this one a chance. Seriously, clear your weekend, grab some tissues (you'll need a lot) and prepare yourself for one of the most impactful viewing experiences of recent years. Maid is waiting for you on Netflix.
