In 'Game of Thrones' He was Shown as a Drunken Pirate: But in Martin's Version He Is as Creepy as the Night King

The hero's image was simply ruined.
In HBO's Game of Thrones, many characters from George Martin's books have undergone significant changes. The difference from the book original was especially significant for Euron Greyjoy.
While in A Song of Ice and Fire he appears as a charismatic and creepy antihero, in the series he has turned into a primitive sea robber.
Euron Greyjoy in the books
In Martin's books, Euron Greyjoy appears as the true embodiment of cruelty - his madness is not inferior even to Ramsay Bolton. The story begins with a heinous crime: he deserved exile from the Iron Islands by abusing his own brother's wife.
Wandering on an ominous ship with a blood-red deck only increased his madness. Euron visited forbidden lands, from which people rarely return alive - he brought back from Valyria not only creepy stories, but also magical artifacts.
When he returned to Veche, even the seasoned islanders froze before him, amazed by his charisma and lack of principles.
Euron Greyjoy in the Game of Thrones series
In the Game of Thrones series, Euron Greyjoy turned out to be completely different from what Martin had in mind. The creators seemed to have lost all the most interesting things about the character, leaving only a pale shadow of the original. Instead of a mysterious villain with Valyrian artifacts and blue lips from constant magic potions, viewers saw a primitive sea robber.
The scriptwriters clearly tried to combine the features of Euron and Victarion, but the result was a strange hybrid - no charisma, no mysticism, not even convincing cruelty. The book character, who was feared by his own relatives, turned into a pirate.
Even outwardly, the series version looked too simple - no traces of a dark past. As fans note, this is one of the most unsuccessful transfers of a character from the pages of a book to the screen.
