Is Dean Alive or Still Dead in The Winchesters?
On November 19, 2020, The CW aired the final episode of Supernatural. The show ended with a two-hour episode that generated a lot of backlash from fans, and the biggest reason was the death of Dean Winchester.
In the final episode of the Supernatural, Sam (Jared Padalecki ) and Dean (Jensen Ackles ) managed to get on the trail of vampires who were kidnapping and killing people. During the fight, Dean was impaled on a piece of rebar and, after an emotional farewell to his brother, died. Once in heaven, he met Bobby Singer and learned that his parents were somewhere there too. In the meantime, Sam started a family, lived out a full life and died peacefully in his own bed. At the end of the episode we see the Winchesters reunited in heaven.
But when the first episode of the Supernatural prequel, The Winchesters, was released on October 11th, it made everyone question Dean's death. Having to say goodbye to their beloved character, fans were happy and confused at the same time to see the older Winchester alive and well again in the prequel. Dean Winchester serves as a narrator of the story, using his journal to immerse the audience into the adventures of his parents, Mary and John Winchesters, who began to fight the evil way before Winchester brothers were born.
"Like I told you, there's going to be some surprises. Hell, I'm still trying to find all the puzzle pieces myself. But I'll explain everything. And until then, I'll keep picking the music," Dean says in the first episode of the Winchesters, leaving fans with lots of unanswered questions. So, is Dean Winchester dead or alive?
According to the showrunner Robbie Thompson, the intrigue that the audience has been left with will be resolved during the next episodes of the show. But Thompson also gives some hints on how to solve the mystery of Dean Winchester, seemingly alive. The biggest: watch the show carefully and don't forget to look for clues.
" Where Dean is is a mystery for now. We’ve provided some clues in some of the visuals that I think some fans have already picked up on and have some theories on where he is," Thompson said in an exclusive TVLine interview.
One of the most popular fan theories suggests that Dean Winchester is telling his story while being in heaven, which actually makes sense; after all, that is the last place we saw Dean in.
