Is ‘Fountain of Youth’ Worth Watching? Its Rotten Tomatoes Score Suggests Otherwise

Starring John Krasinski and Nathalie Portman, the action adventure movie might have just become one of Ritchie’s worst releases to-date — here’s what everyone says about it.
It’s been several hours since Guy Ritchie’s new heist flick Fountain of Youth dropped on Apple TV+, though it seems like the movie’s results might not be getting any better afterwards.
Fountain of Youth, praised by its director and leading cast as one of the most compelling action-packed movies released this year, quickly proved it all wrong with numerous mixed to negative reviews that keep coming in from both critics and viewers.
Despite its attempt to honor other legendary adventure franchises like Indiana Jones and to even take a spot somewhere nearby, Fountain of Youth is, according to many, has already become Ritchie’s worst take on the genre ever.
‘Fountain of Youth’ Gets Everything but Praise With a Current RT Score of 38%
The movie, which premiered on Apple TV+ today, was quick to receive a massive backlash from both critics and audiences, currently having a score of only 38% from critics.
“This is an embarrassing, algorithmic dollar-store take on Uncharted and Indiana Jones that doesn’t understand a damn thing about what makes a fun, epic adventure or explorers charming and likable”, Flickering Myth’s Robert Kojder wrote.
“Fountain of Youth feels like it desperately wants to belong alongside The Mummy and Indiana Jones, but it falls short of reaching the heights this genre is capable of”, CBR’s Jamie Parker added.
“Director Guy Ritchie knows his way around action, but he doesn’t have the deft touch and sense of giddy fun that Steven Spielberg brought to the Indiana Jones movies. It’s passable, but “Fountain of Youth” is a watered-down imitation”, KKFI-FM’s Russ Simmons agreed.
What’s even more frustrating for Ritchie and co, Fountain of Youth has so far got little support from viewers as well.
“Someone would have to try VERY hard to convince me that this isn't the first major studio release written completely by AI. Can we coin a new term for movies like this? Instead of a blockbuster, a lackluster? Holy moly, what a bizarrely bad film…” user Pixy D shared on Rotten Tomatoes’ website.
Not everyone is that merciless, though.
“Enjoyable and entertaining - looks very good and holds together well despite a few plot holes”, user Bob B threw in some positive words.
Eiza González Says Guy Ritchie Is “Tough” to Work With
Despite some claiming that the director hasn’t had a consistent movie idea in years, it doesn’t seem to be the same for actors he has worked with more recently.
Fountain of Youth’s Eiza González, who also starred in Ritchie’s 2024 box office flop The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, even thinks she might still have a post-traumatic experience after collaborating with Ritchie, though it’s all good for her anyway.
“My first experience with him was quite intense, and I learned so much in the process. t was tough. He's a tough director in the sense [that] he comes in with an idea. You have to achieve it, and you have a very small window of time to do it. But I love that. I thrive on that. [...] And we have a laugh and we have a good time, and people that come with optimism to set, he really appreciates,” the actress revealed in a recent interview with ScreenRant.
