The writers show us Ricken as the awkward and funny husband of Mark's sister, but he clearly has more influence and is somehow connected to Lumon.

During the first half of the first season of Severance, we thought that the severance procedure only affected certain Lumon employees.

However, closer to the finale, it became clear that the procedure was also being performed on ordinary people – for example, the Senator's wife, Gabby Arteta. Thus we learned that there are severed people outside the Lumon offices. Now fans think there's even more to it. Enter Ricken.

Ricken's Friends Most Likely Went Through the Severance Procedure

The viewers paid attention to the remark of Rebeck, Ricken's friend.

During the presentation of the book The You You Are, Rebeck casually mentions her scar on the back of her head, which she received from a blow from the beak of a pet bird. All severed people have the same scar, and she is probably one of them.

Suspicion also falls on Ricken. He is clearly not just a minor character, but someone more significant, clearly connected to Lumon.

Ricken May Be Gathering a Loyal Fan Base Around Himself

One of the Reddit users suspects that severance can be used not only for pragmatic purposes, but also for the entertainment of rich people – and Ricken is one of those people.

It is obvious that Ricken is rich – have you seen his house? It is unclear where Devon's husband gets such resources – given the quality of his books, they are not his main source of income.

The fan suggests that Ricken used the severance procedure to gather a circle of fans around him that he could not get in the usual way because of the low quality of his books.

This is hinted at by the aforementioned Rebeck's scar. However, in the same episode, one of the guests also mentions that he does not know which of the two names Rebeck is currently using.

Also, Ricken's friends are unaware of obvious facts, such as the fact that World War I was originally called something else.

The You You Are Has a Much Greater Impact on Innies Than It Does on Ordinary People

Perhaps Ricken desperately needs outside validation of his talent, as evidenced by his numerous conversations with Mark in which he literally begs for praise of his work.

Ricken's fixation on his own success and creative viability may have led him to the absurd decision to surround himself with people who, with the help of the procedure, will love his books. And as we saw in the first season, his book The You You Are really made a lasting impression on the innies.

The Town of Kier May Consist Almost Entirely of Severed People

It is quite possible that many of the town's inhabitants are severed or are innies, programmed by Lumon chips to behave in certain ways. And the corporation has complete control over the town.

More likely, the town of Kier is the first major testing ground for the mass introduction of biotechnology and other sinister tests.
