Is ‘Road House 2’ in Trouble? Guy Ritchie Quits Amid Mixed Fan Reaction

The upcoming sequel of Jake Gyllenhaal’s 2024 action movie has just been abandoned by its only possible saviour, though it might be for the better — here’s what Guy Ritchie’s fans said about the news.
It seems like Guy Ritchie is in fact keeping himself way too busy even for those projects he signed up for previously.
Several weeks ago, it was reported that the director came on board for a sequel of Doug Liman’s Road House as a director, with many fans raising their hopes up for the continuation to be better than the first movie with Ritchie’s help.
A new report by Deadline suggests that Ritchie has decided to quit the project for an unknown reason, and now many think that the director has finally realised what the actual problem has been all along.
Guy Ritchie Has Been Prioritizing “Quantity Over Quality”, Fans Say
In fact, it's been several prosperous years for Guy Ritchie's career. The director has released several projects per year, if not more.
This, according to some of his fans, was the reason why Ritchie’s movies and shows significantly degraded in both ratings and reviews.
“He’s always been a work horse.. but in recent years Guy has been making so much shit that it’s become quantity over quality for me”, Redditor Big-Sheepherder-9492 admitted in a thread’s comment section.
Some others, however, still lamented Ritchie’s decision, believing he might have been the one to make a worthy action-packed sequel to Road House.
“That's a shame. Road House seems like the kind of violent trash that he's really good at”, mikeyfreshh noted.
“Shame. Guy knows how to shoot fist fights”, DaddyO1701 agreed.
“That's a bummer. I've quite enjoyed his post 2020 run. Fountain of Youth was the only real miss step. The rest have been incredibly fun and entertaining”, braumbles revealed.
Despite Guy Ritchie’s Exit, ‘Road House 2’ Is Still Happening
The first movie’s scandalous release last year might have ignited thoughts about its likely average run, but things turned out for Road House in the best way possible.
Released on Prime Video amidst the feud between director Doug Liman and Amazon MGM, the film went on to become a viewership record breaker and one of the most successful projects Amazon MGM helmed in 2024.
Whether it’s with or without Guy Ritchie, Road House 2 remains in the works, with Jake Gyllenhaal reprising his role and the production planned for this fall.
While the new director is yet to be found, the sources say casting continues in its most active phase.
