Jon Favreau says he has no plans for an ending or finale for the Star Wars Disney Plus series.

The Mandalorian is currently one of the most popular media projects set in the Star Wars universe.

Favored by critics and fans (unlike certain other shows, such as Obi-Wan Kenobi ), it managed to get its own spin-off series (The Book of Boba Fett), expanding the world of The Galaxy Far Far Away and giving fans a fresh perspective from the point of view of a character far removed from the global galactic politics and dilemmas of The Force, a simple man trying to make his way in the universe.

Although the scope of events has grown significantly over the course of two seasons, the show maintains a rather slow space western pace, especially compared to other Star Wars media projects.

But that may be changing. In an interview with Total Film magazine Jon Favreau, the show's creator, said that the show is just the middle chapter of a much larger story and that they don't have a finale to build to yet. This statement sowed doubt among fans about the future of the show.

The main concern is whether the show will be able to maintain its quality throughout its run without a clear plot structure to stick to. After all, there are plenty of shows that had strong early seasons only to fall into the pit of mediocrity as the creators squeeze the last drops of plot to keep fans interested.

One of the most notorious examples of this is AMC's The Walking Dead. It would be heartbreaking for Star Wars fans if The Mandalorian suffered the same fate.

A less obvious problem is that the show would lose its unique down-to-earth perspective.

This may not be a problem for everyone, but The Mandalorian gained its popularity in large part because people were tired of the familiar plot tropes, and the shift in perspective from the lightsaber-wielding Chosen One to a space bounty hunter was a welcome surprise. But seeing the story go back to the over-the-top space epic gives fans mixed feelings.

But only time will tell. If the creators can pull it off, Star Wars fans are in for a real treat.

The Mandalorian season 3 starts March 1st on Disney Plus.
