Is The Winds of Winter Doomed? No One Trusts George Martin After Latest Flop

A Song of Ice and Fire’s author might be stunned by seeing his own work on the screens, but critics and audiences feel differently.
In the past decade, George Martin has been more involved in playing a tricky game with fans rather than finishing the next instalment of his hit book series.
The writer’s continuous false promises convinced fans that there was no point in waiting for The Winds of Winter’s arrival at some point, despite Martin’s urge to wrap the book up as soon as possible.
However, the author’s most recent announcement made even his most devoted fans see red, especially in the wake of his latest adaptation’s major failure in the box office.
George Martin’s “Exciting” Announcement Isn’t so Exciting for Fans
Having already faced several waves of backlash in recent years, Martin has definitely learnt how to approach his audiences, though this might not be what fans appreciate after all.
A couple of days ago, the author once again took to his personal blog, revealing he had something exciting to share with everyone, though quickly explained this had nothing to do with The Winds of Winter whatsoever.
“A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS will come first. Six episodes, the HBO adaptation of the first Dunk & Egg novella, “The Hedge Knight. ” I just watched it again last week, the latest cuts. It’s looking good, I think. I love it lots, but I’m not one to judge”, he continued, repeating pretty much the same thing he had said just a couple of months ago.
Despite some promising to never care about Martin’s announcements anymore, others didn’t wait to react.
“Well we all know what it's NOT going to be”, Redditor WestCoast_PizzaGhost wrote.
Meanwhile, fishgeek13 was more radical, stating that no one would care about what Martin had to say since “this guy is never finishing anything ever again”.
George Martin Has Been Mercurial About Winds of Winter For Years
With Game of Thrones being over for more than five years now, George Martin has never let it rest well, publicly giving up on A Song of Ice and Fire and then picking it up again for more than a decade already.
The long-suffering book has received numerous updates lately, as Martin announced he would never finish The Winds of Winter back in December last year, but then changed his mind again, revealing he’s planning to wrap the story up no matter what back in March.
What Went Wrong With In the Lost Lands?
- On Rotten Tomatoes, In the Lost Lands has 24% from critics and 47% from viewers
- On IMDb, In the Lost Lands has 4.7/10
The fate of A Song of Ice and Fire’s two remaining chapters remain shrouded in mystery. In the meantime, Martin’s most recent adaptation, a fantasy action movie In the Lost Lands, bombed dramatically in the box office, making the author’s fans question his praise towards A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms as well.
“A mind-numbing waste of George R.R. Martin’s source material, where the author’s intrigue and lore has been significantly watered down in favour of generic and personality-free post-apocalyptic action slop where everything looks and feels artificial”, Film Feeder’s Jack Martin wrote, adding to a bunch of similar reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
