'It Ends With Us' Was Scandalous, but Had Its Own Face – Unlike This New Colleen Hoover Flick
Even the most devoted Colleen Hoover fans risk dozing off in their seats.
Following the resounding – albeit controversial – hit It Ends with Us, starring Blake Lively, another adaptation of Colleen Hoover's novel, Regretting You, has hit the big screen.
However, while the first project was memorable for its provocative plot and striking aesthetic, Josh Boone's new work risks being forgotten even by the author's devoted fans.
What Is 'Regretting You' About?

Morgan learns that she is pregnant with Chris' child. Her sister, Jenny, and her boyfriend, Jonah, support her. 17 years later, Morgan and Chris live a happy life with their daughter, Clara. Jenny and Jonah, who have recently reunited, are expecting their own child.
However, everything collapses in an instant. Chris and Jenny are killed in a car accident, and a shocking detail soon emerges: they were in the same car not by accident. For Morgan and Jonah, grief is mixed with the shock of realizing a decades-long betrayal.
Meanwhile, Clara is trying to start a relationship with a boy named Miller while grieving the loss of her father and beloved aunt.
'Regretting You' Is an Extremely Clichéd and Faceless Romantic Flick
Regretting You reads like a collection of familiar soap opera and cheap melodrama tropes. The plot follows clichés, jumping from one obligatory dramatic twist to the next while ignoring any psychological depth.
For instance, after discovering a resemblance between his son and his deceased friend, Jonah furiously distances himself from the child in one scene, only to embrace him in the next.
These abrupt, unmotivated emotional leaps fill the entire movie, leaving no room for reflection or genuine empathy.
'Regretting You' Had a Promising Premise, but Failed to Deliver Anything More Than Flat Characters

Regretting You's premise held powerful dramatic potential. The topics of double betrayal and grief, as well as the complex intertwining of two generations' destinies, could have formed the basis for a poignant story.
However, rather than delving deeply into the emotions of the widowers and their children, the script is scattered, attempting to devote equal attention to Morgan and her daughter, Clara.
Ultimately, Regretting You turns out to be a typical product best suited for a streaming library, where you can watch it while playing a match-3 game.
