Jake Gyllenhaal Enters Unknown Territory in New Amazon Thriller
A role unlike any in his career, and big studio backing.
From brooding detectives to Marvel villains and morally conflicted heroes, Jake Gyllenhaal’s resume is nothing if not diverse. But there’s one role he hasn’t tackled yet: the country’s top heart surgeon caught in a high-stakes political conspiracy.
According to Deadline, Gyllenhaal is now in talks to star in and produce Code Black, an upcoming political thriller acquired by Amazon MGM Studios — reportedly for one of the biggest prices ever paid for a short story. The project is based on a story by Harrison Query (Heads of State), who’s also writing the script.
In Code Black, a brilliant surgeon is flown to Washington, D.C. for a life-saving operation — only to realize he’s walked straight into a trap. What follows is a tense, high-risk fight against a hidden threat that could endanger both his family and the country itself.
There’s no director attached yet, and no word on when or where the film will be released. But with Gyllenhaal’s name in the mix and Amazon betting big, Code Black could be one of the studio’s standout thrillers in the near future.
