Amazon MGM is reportedly joining forces with another famous director (no, it’s not Christopher Nolan).

Despite many talks about another James Bond movie not coming to the screens in the upcoming years, things seem to be moving forward for Amazon MGM in regard to the company’s recently acquired franchise.

Just several weeks ago Bondiana passed into the hands of Amazon when its longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson stepped away from running the franchise which, in its turn, belonged to Broccoli’s family for decades.

More recently, Bondiana was rumoured to go forward with Christopher Nolan as the one to helm the next movie, though it might not be the option anymore; another director is currently being eyed for a new James Bond film.

Alfonso Cuarón Will Likely Direct Next James Bond Movie Instead of Christopher Nolan

Another Oscar-winning director has just joined the race for Bondiana’s next instalment as, according to Matt Belloni’s The Town podcast, the Mexican filmmaker had recently had a meeting with Amazon MGM execs, reportedly for sharing his own vision of the next James Bond movie with them.

It’s not only the future film’s director that the studio is deciding about right now; the 26th Bond film has also got its writers and will most likely enter the full production mode once Amazon reaches the final deal with Barbara Broccoli.

As for the company’s sudden change of mind in regard to Christopher Nolan’s almost certain position of the next James Bond movie’s director, Cuarón coming on board instead might suggest that Amazon MGM is determined to push things forward for Bondiana and thus not willing to wait for more than a year until Nolan is done with his ongoing movie Odyssey.

The latter is currently being filmed on remote islands in Greece and will be released in theatres next July.

Alfonso Cuarón Refused to Film a James Bond Movie ‘Years Ago’

Despite being the frontrunner for directing the next instalment for Bondiana right now, Cuarón wasn’t very fond of the whole idea when he was offered to do the same a while ago.

Back in 2024, the director was in attendance at the Marrakech Film Festival where he revealed he had turned down an offer to make another James Bond movie, despite his personal desire to direct a blockbuster.

“Ages ago I was offered a Bond film. And I said, ‘Yeah, cool. Maybe Bond. I am going to do one.’ And then when the process started and I was going to shoot all the dialogue and stuff, there was a [separate] team doing all the action scenes. It kind of felt very weird”, Cuarón said (via Variety).

He also added that he would later discuss the matter with Joel Coen, another proclaimed director who, according to Cuarón, had talked him out of helming a movie for Bondiana saying that “it probably falls into the category of a film I want to watch but not do”.
