James Gunn's DC: Full List of Planned Movies & Current Production Status (2025 Update)

From the highly anticipated Supergirl to unusual projects like Swamp Thing, here's the latest information on filming dates, directors, writers, and casting.
With James Gunn's appointment as head of DC Studios, the superhero universe has entered a new era. Below is a complete list of confirmed and planned films in the reimagined DCU, along with their current production statuses.
1. 'Supergirl'
Status: Confirmed
Release Date: June 26, 2026
The movie will tell the story of the adventures of Superman's cousin, Kara Zor-El, portrayed by Milly Alcock. The character was previously featured in the post-credits scene of Superman. And yes, Krypto is her dog, and Clark Kent only looked after him temporarily.
While there is no detailed plot, it is assumed that Supergirl will visit other planets and face large-scale threats. However, a meeting with the alien mercenary Lobo, played by Jason Momoa, has been confirmed.
Viewers can expect a fresh take on a familiar character. The heroine will no longer be a good girl but will instead appear as an eccentric and cheerful rebel.
2. 'Clayface'
Status: Confirmed
Release Date: September 11, 2026
Clayface will be dedicated to one of Batman's enemies. The plot will follow a B-movie actor who becomes entangled in gangster showdowns, resulting in facial scarring. Clayface will be a rare superhero movie with a focus on body horror.
Tom Rhys Harries was cast in the lead role, and James Watkins, who made Speak No Evil, was chosen as the director. However, what's more interesting is that the screenwriter is Mike Flanagan.
Flanagan is known for The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep, Gerald's Game, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher.
3. 'The Brave and the Bold'
Status: In Development
The new Batman movie will debut with a focus on Bruce Wayne's relationship with his son, Damian. Damian is an impulsive and cruel child, and his father tries to raise him to be a fair defender of Gotham. Andy Muschietti, who made It and The Flash, has been appointed as the director.
According to James Gunn's statements, the movie is in active development. Now that Muschietti has finished work on the It prequel series, Welcome to Derry, perhaps production will speed up.
4. 'The Authority'
Status: In Limbo
This is a comic book adaptation of a superhero team that saves the world based on the idea that the end justifies the means. They show no regard for victims, destruction, or ethical standards.
Ideologically, they are more similar to the superheroes in The Boys than to the Justice League. This is the basis for their conflicts with other DC characters.
There have been no major updates on The Authority, but James Gunn mentioned turning down a movie because the script wasn't good enough. It could be about The Authority, but we will have to wait for official announcements to find out more.
5. 'Swamp Thing'
Status: In Development
This horror movie will tell the origin story of the eponymous superhero, who can inhabit any plant matter.
James Mangold, known for Logan and Ford v Ferrari, will write the script and direct. James Gunn promises a dark project similar to gothic horror movies about Frankenstein.
6. 'Wonder Woman'
Status: In Development
Gunn recently announced that a new Wonder Woman movie is now a top priority, and Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira is already working on the script.
However, it is unclear how quickly the project will move forward. Casting will only begin once the script is ready. Given that other key DC characters have already been recast, it is safe to assume that Gal Gadot will not reprise her role as Wonder Woman.
7. 'Sgt. Rock'
Status: In Limbo
DC bosses describe the project as a World War II story of heroism and conflict. According to Deadline, Luca Guadagnino, the director of Challengers, was set to direct the movie in 2024 with Daniel Craig in the lead role.
However, Peter Safran later said that he and James Gunn never met with Craig about his role in Sgt. Rock. The film's development status is unclear, so it could be another shelved project like The Authority.
8. 'Teen Titans'
Status: In Limbo
In 2024, Ana Nogueira, a writer for Supergirl, was hired to adapt Teen Titans, but the lineup of the team and other details remain unknown.
In 2025, Gunn admitted that he was unsure about the announced details. He praised the draft but noted that revisions were needed. He later claimed that there was no script and that Nogueira had moved on to Wonder Woman, and that his praise was actually for Supergirl.
9. 'Blackhawk'
Status: In Limbo
While Blackhawk's place in the DC Universe is unclear, Steven Spielberg attempted to adapt the comic book in the 1980s. He may now direct a movie based on Quality Comics with a script from David Koepp, who wrote the screenplay for The Lost World: Jurassic Park.
The story could follow WWII pilots who become mercenaries and then superheroes. Given Spielberg's love of aviation, this concept would be perfect, but there has been little news or announcement about the project in recent years.
10. 'Lobo'
Status: In Limbo
Plans for a Lobo movie have been in the works since 2009, with directors such as Guy Ritchie being considered. By 2020, Wonder Woman screenwriter Jason Fuchs was rewriting the script, and Michael Bay was being considered as a potential director.
In late 2022, rumors surfaced that Jason Momoa was considering leaving Aquaman for Lobo. Although James Gunn opposes double casting in the DC, Momoa's departure from the Aquaman franchise made it possible.
Momoa was later confirmed to play Lobo in Supergirl. However, a solo movie about the character remains uncertain.
DC Elseworlds
1. 'The Batman Part II'
Status: Confirmed
Release Date: October 1, 2027
In 2022, Matt Reeves directed a movie about a young Bruce Wayne, played by Robert Pattinson. The characters in this universe rely less on fantasy gadgets, and their physical capabilities resemble those of real people more closely.
Reeves' interpretation has become the basis for its own microuniverse, which also includes the series The Penguin. The Batman Part II has been in limbo for a long time, but filming was recently confirmed to begin in spring 2026.
2. 'Constantine 2'
Status: In Development
Rumors that a sequel to the film adaptation of the comic book about John Constantine would be made began circulating in 2020, but were not officially confirmed until 2022.
In addition to lead actor Keanu Reeves, the first film's director, Francis Lawrence, is also involved in the project.
Following a change in studio management, Reeves confirmed that the film had not been canceled. The sequel is currently in the scriptwriting stage.
3. 'The Other Superman'
Status: In Development
In February 2021, it was announced that Ta-Nehisi Coates, writer of the Black Panther comic book, would be penning a new Superman movie that would not be part of the DCEU.
The movie would take place in an alternate universe where Superman is Black. Michael B. Jordan was considered the leading contender for the role, and J.J. Abrams was set to produce.
However, it was later revealed that Jordan was no longer involved with the project. Despite the personnel changes at DC, Coates and Abrams' movie is still in development.
4. 'Dynamic Duo'
Status: In Development
In 2024, Variety announced an animated Warner Bros. film about the original Robins, Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. Matthew Aldrich, the screenwriter of Coco, reimagined them as childhood friends separated by tragedy.
In 2025, Safran confirmed that the movie was in pre-production.
