This might be a great reminder to give the movie a rewatch as it’s currently sitting at the 7th position in Peacock’s top movie chart, according to FlixPatrol. Also starring Rose Byrne, Miranda Hart and Jude Law, Spy is a light-hearted comedy helmed by A Simple Favor’s director Paul Feig.
The film primarily follows Melissa McCarthy’s CIA analyst Susan Cooper who, despite having passed field training, has spent all the years of her career at the office desk, helping her fellow worker and agent Bradley Fine, portrayed by Jude Law, during the latter’s risky missions.
Things shift radically when Susan finds out her partner in crime was killed by Bulgarian arms dealer Rayna Boyanov and decides to avenge Bradley, embarking on her own mission to track Boyanov down.
Spy Was One of the Biggest Hits in 2015
The movie opened to universal acclaim back in the day, gaining both critical and commercial success. With a budget of $65 million dollars, Spy earned around $235 million in theatres worldwide with a whopping amount of $29 million grossed during its opening weekend.
The film also received some praise from critics and viewers for Feig’s directorial vision and screenplay, the leading cast’s performances and, apart from it all, Jason Statham’s surprisingly stunning comedic role.
On Rotten Tomatoes, Spy is currently holding scores of 95% and 78% from critics and audiences respectively.
