Jenna Ortega Confirms What Everyone Suspected About Scream 7 Exit
The actress caused another scandal when she left the hit horror franchise a couple of years ago.
It’s been a while since the Scream franchise lost one of its leading stars Jenna Ortega, but it’s all getting clearer only now.
Back in 2023, the actress exited the upcoming seventh movie, which was already in the works at the time, saying that the whole issue had to do with her busy shooting schedule, although many still suspected there was something else to it.
The movie is currently in production and now is scheduled for a release in 2026. Ortega, in the meantime, has moved on to other projects, but just recently revealed the real reason for quitting the horror franchise, proving that many of her fans were right after all.

The upcoming movie saw the first major change in its cast when Melissa Barrera was fired from Scream 7 — which, according to Jenna Ortega, prompted her to leave too.
“It had nothing to do with pay or scheduling. The Melissa stuff was happening, and it was all kind of falling apart. If ‘Scream VII’ wasn’t going to be with that team of directors and those people I fell in love with, then it didn’t seem like the right move for me in my career at the time,” the actress revealed in a recent interview with The Cut.
Barrera caused a big scandal in the industry after repeatedly expressing her support of Palestine in its ongoing conflict with Israel in her social media. Ortega announced her exit from the franchise just one day after Barrera was fired, which many assumed the actress did to uphold her colleague.

Melissa Barrera’s scandal paved the way for other shocking decisions that at some point jeopardised the movie’s future.
Right after the actress was fired, Scream 7’s original director Christopher Landon posted an already deleted statement on his social media, saying that he wasn’t to blame for the outcome since this wasn’t his decision. A month later, he exited the movie too, stating that it “was a dream job that turned into a nightmare”.
Eventually, Scream 7 ended up with the franchise’s original writer Kevin Williamson who will also helm the upcoming movie as a director as well.
Scream 7 will arrive in theatres on February 27, 2026.
