Jensen Ackles' Gives New Soldier Boy Update for 'The Boys' Season 5: "You Never Know"
The Boys season 5 shooting isn't finished yet, but Jensen Ackles seems to be done with his part. Here's what to expect.
It's a good time to be a fan of Jensen Ackles these days — the actor joined The Boys franchise in 2019, and in 2025, he has become a star of another Prime Video show, Countdown. But it doesn't mean that Soldier Boy is over — on the contrary, he will have an integral role in the upcoming fifth and final season of The Boys.
In a new interview with CBR, Ackles revealed that he finished filming his scenes for The Boys season 5.
"I just finished The Boys on Tuesday, [June 10th], and I think I've got all my stuff done. But I don't know. You never know. They might have to bring me back for some other stuff," the actor said.
What Will Happen to Soldier Boy in 'The Boys' Season 5?
We don't have much to speculate about, but The Boys' showrunner Eric Kripke did say that season 5 will move further into the father-son relationship territory for Soldier Boy and Homelander.
"Because the revelation that Soldier Boy was his father came so late in Season 3, we never really got the chance to play it, but actually playing this father-son relationship between those two characters, there’s a lot of material to mine there and a lot of fraught emotional turns. So we’re able to dig into that in Season 5, and it has been a blast watching those two actors play off each other in the dailies," Kripke told TV Insider in a May interview.
For Homelander, the whole thing is "very conflicted", as his portrayer Antony Starr revealed to TVLine when speaking about season 4's bonus scene that showed Homelander looking at the frozen body of his biological father.
“I think it’s such a loaded moment. You know those moments in life where you know something very intense is happening, but you can’t process things in the moment? We don’t work like that. I wanted that moment to be he knows what he’s coming in to see. He’s coming into the room, he knows what’s there. But then the reality of seeing his father, the father who wanted to kill him… It’s such a conflicted moment," Starr said.
When Will 'The Boys' Season 5 Premiere?
At the time of writing, there is no exact release date for The Boys season 5.
However, it's reasonable to expect the premiere at some point in 2026, as Jensen Ackles has said that the filming should be finished "next month," meaning July.
The Boys season 5 will premiere on Prime Video.
