Jensen Ackles Revives Hope of 'Supernatural' Reboot: "It's Hanging Out There"

The Boys star flirts with the idea of bringing Supernatural back to life — especially with its cast basically reuniting in Eric Kripke’s superhero satire.
Jensen Ackles has hinted at the possibility of a Supernatural reboot once again, even though The Boys season 5 already feels like one.
With Supernatural stars Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins joining Ackles in season 5, The Boys is a huge wink from showrunner Eric Kripke to the horror classic fans.
However, Ackles, who portrays Soldier Boy in The Boys and played Dean Winchester in Supernatural, isn’t ready to bury the idea of fully rebooting the beloved show and giving fans a proper reunion.
“I mean, look, it’s always hanging out there,” Ackles said during his appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. “I think there’s a reason we did it for 15 years. We enjoyed it. We enjoyed the story, the characters. It was hard to hang it up. But I don’t know that we ever hang it up in Supernatural.”
Do We Really Need a ‘Supernatural’ Revival?
The Supernatural fandom is one of the strongest out there, and the opinions on the show’s potential comeback in any form differ.
Some fans really hated the grand finale, so they only dream of a reboot making things up, and others argue that it’s time to move on — especially now, with sequel and reboot fatigue taking over.
“I liked the ending a lot. I used to think I wanted a revival but now I’ve changed my mind on that. I have yet to see a revival that held up in any other show that tries it, so I fear it wouldn’t be any good. Sometimes you catch [lightning] in a bottle and it’s impossible to capture that magic again once some time has passed and everyone has moved on,” argued Redditor lucolapic.
Some fans believe that Supernatural doesn’t need a revival or a season 16 as much as it needs its finale redone.
“The only thing that I would like [to see] redone with the ending is seeing more of all the characters we loved and missed that we couldn't see due to COVID restrictions while they were filming. If they could just film the last two episodes over again and get everyone involved in it, I think that would give us a more satisfying end that a lot more of the fans would enjoy,” Redditor thatawkwardgirl666 noted.
